From flannel pajamas to hoagies from Wawa, the staff at Encore at Wilmington senior living community in Wilmington, Delaware, have, once again, made wishes come true.
Approximately 60 staff members from all departments in the retirement community purchased holiday gifts for the 80 residents in assisted living and skilled nursing. This has become a holiday tradition that residents eagerly anticipate.
Several years ago, the staff at Encore at Wilmington noted that the holidays focus on children and families. While this is good, it leaves some seniors feeling overlooked. The employees decided to ensure that no one at Encore at Wilmington would be forgotten. Each resident made a wish list naming items they might enjoy as a holiday gift. Staff members drew a resident’s name and then made the wishes come true.
Samantha Oropeza, Director of Life Enrichment at Encore at Wilmington, said that while the residents look forward to receiving the gifts, it’s really the staff members who most enjoy spoiling the residents whom they love.
